Bicheno has a very long history with the commercial fishing industry, with species such as crayfish, abalone and scallops being the lifeblood of the town for many decades.
Saturday 18 May 1805: ‘am at 12 I went afishing and caught 38 Rock Cod, some very large and 5 Perch and some Flat heads in all about 60 Fish and returned home at 5 pm to dinner’.
